1. Question. why do people who grow crops have to stay in the same place for a long time?
Answer.  People who grow crops have to stay in the same place for a long time because the fields had to be looked after. the plants had to be watered and plants had to be protected from birds and animals so that they could grow and the seeds would ripen.



2.Question Look at the table on page 25 of the textbook . If Neinuo wanted to eat rice, which are the places she  should have visited?
Answer. If Neinuo wanted to eat rice she should have gone  to the state of West Bengal (a major rice product area).

3.Question. Why do archaeologists think that many people who lived in Mehrgarh were hunters to start with and that herding became more important later?
Answer.  Archaeologists think that many people who lived in Mehrgarh were hunters because they have found bones of many kinds of animals from earliest levels. These included bones of wild animals such as deer and pig. In later levels they found more bones of sheep  and goat and in still later levels, cattle bones are more common.

4.Question. State whether True or False.
Answer.
(a) Milletes have been found at Hallur. ( True).
(b) People in Burzahom lived in rectangular houses. (False).
(c) Chirand is a site in Kashmir. (False).
(d) Jadeite. found in Daojali Hading, may have been brought from China. (True). 

5.Question.List three ways in which the lives of farmers and herders would have been different from that of hunter-gatherers.
Answer.
Farmers herders :  
(1) Farmers have to stay at once place because they had to stay in the same place for a long time looking after the plants, watering, weeding, driving away animals and birds — till the grain ripened.
(2) Farmers could grow much more than was needed by his family.
(3) They stored  the surplus food  or sold them in th market.

Hunter-gatherers:
(1) The hunter had to migrate to those places where game was plentiful.
(2) The Hunter-gatherers collected that was needed by them.
(3) They could not store food or sell them in the market.

6.Question. Make a list of all the animals mentioned in the table (Page 25 of the textbook). For each one, describe what they may have been used for.
Answer.
Sheepmeat and wool
Goatmilk and meat.
Dogto look after the fields.
Cattlefor dairy and milk products
Buffalomilk giving animal.
Oxfor ploughing the field and puling the carts
Pigfor meat
       
7.Question. List the cereals that you eat.
Answer. The cereals are wheat, rice, maize, barely, jowar, bajara.

8.Question. Do you grow the cereals you have listed in answer no 7. if yes draw a chart to show the stages in growing them. if not. draw a chart to show how these cereals reach your from the farmers who grow them. 
Answer.  The farmers grow the cereals. The various steps involved are: 
1Ploughing the field and putting manure.
2Sowing the seeds.
3Looking after the tender plants and saving them from pests
4Watering the field when necessary.
5Harvesting the crop.
6Storing them in the sheds.

The cereals reach people from the farmer. The chart given below show it.

The crops are purchased by the middle man from the farmers. They bring it to the cities.They sell them to the wholesale merchant or a retailer.We buy it from the shops, either from the wholesale merchant  retailer.
